pitchfork music festival Avey Tare - "Welcome to The Funzone" (from Danny Perez’s ANTIBIRTH)

Danny Perez commissioned David Portner (Avey Tare) to write a custom jingle for a child's pizzeria, arcade, shitshow: The Funzone, to be featured in his movie, ANTIBIRTH. Something like Joe Meek on a drone. Portner's playfulness and use of vocal manipulations captured a perfect tone and duality for this off kilter and surreal advert. It's upbeat, jubilant, but sinister at the same time.

The music video is an extended version of what appears in ANTIBIRTH. Edited and animated by Perez, the video advertises a children's arcade, pizzeria and bowling alley called the Funzone. In the film, the Funzone had a former life as a seedy dive bar where local degenerates would party.

ANTIBIRTH will be released by IFC MIDNIGHT in theaters and on VOD, September 2, 2016.
